The Lonestar Round Up is an annual hot rod and vintage car show in Austin Tx. These images were shot with my Nikon F3 on a single roll of Kodak Tri-X 400.

Love the shots. How do you like the F3? I have an F100 that I've been shooting with for about two years.

Getting used to a completely manual-focus camera was a bit of a struggle for me at first, but I have really enjoyed it overall. It is a very simple, but very reliable camera. I have always been curious about the newer film SLRs like the F100 or the F6 *swoon* but for now I am sticking with what I have. What has your experience been with the F100?

Stay away from Ilford Super 400 unless you really like grain.

I’ve been running nothing but a 50 f1.8 on it and the autofocus is very fast and accurate. It feels very solid. I never really worry about lugging it around while I’m on the street. I absolutely adore the black and white tone that you achieved with these shots. I need to try a few rolls of tri-X

Love the colors. Some...interesting crops, I presume it was hard to get everything you wanted in a frame with a 50mm at a car show. #3 is my favorite.

Thanks for the compliments! I had my 35-70mm with me, so I take full responsibility for the odd compositions... the way I look at it, I am not just taking still-life snapshots of the cars overall, but trying to draw attention to some of the particular details that I noticed, or more importantly the interaction that people have with the car. In the end, I am trying to tell a story that connects as much to car buffs, as those who know nothing about them. To that end, I think my favorite is #4

I can see that. I also see consistency in the way you crop - very important for a series like this. Of course, there is no right or wrong, your photos = your vision.

Airplane motor in a hotrod? awesome.
the pictures are awesome too. Just curious, are you able to trust your meter on your F3? Or do you use another method of checking your exposure?

Unless I am going for some specific effect, I usually trust the internal light meter... it takes a little bit to learn how it works, but I have found it too be really good.
